April 6, 2004

The George Mason women's track and field team competed at the Texas Relays this past weekend and a pair of individual athletes had strong performances with just weeks to go before the Colonial Athletic Association Championships.

Alyce Williams qualified for the NCAA East Regional Championships with a jump of 12.65 meters in the triple jump, good for a fourth-place finish. Williams wasn't the only Patriot with a high finish at the Texas Relays as Nichole Brown jumped 1.73 meters in the high jump. That was enough for Brown to finish fourth in the event and if she had not previously qualified for the NCAA East Regional, her jump this weekend would have been good enough.

The women's 4X400-meter relay team ran in the Olympic Development Division of the Texas Relays and placed sixth with a time of 3:38.78. The relay team, like Brown, would have qualified for the NCAA East Regional if they hadn't met the required time earlier in the outdoor season.

Corri Allen also competed at the Texas Relays, finishing seventh in the long jump with a leap of 5.50 meters.

While much of the team was in Austin for the Texas Relays, some of the team remained behind to compete at the Terrapin Invitational.

Sara Hines was second in the high jump with a leap of 1.60 meters, Alicia Lowery was second in the 100-meters with a time of 12.22 seconds and fourth in the 200-meters in 25.37 seconds, Sheena Goss and Dana Early were seventh and eighth, respectively in the 800 meters, with times of 2:17.94 and 2:19.56, Ryann Holmes was 13th in the 800-meters with a time of 2:23.89, Jessica Young was 11th in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 13:58.88.

Three Patriots competed in the 5,000 meters with Nicole Holfield as the top finisher. She was 11th with a time of 19:25.14. Julia Gaudet was 17th with a time of 19:56.39 and Rose Moeser was 24th in a time of 20:20.73.

Also competing for at the Terrapin Invitational were Kathy Williams and Aisha Williams. Kathy Williams was 11th in the 400-meter hurdles, 24th in the 100-meter hurdles and 20th in the long jump. Aisha Williams was 10th in the triple jump and 21st in the 100-meter hurdles.

The Patriots have next weekend off as they gear up for the CAA Championships which will be held at Richmond, Va. On April 16 & 17.
