Mason Women's Doubles Teams Fare Well at the DC Metro Championships

George Mason Wins Third Straight Match, Defeats Morgan State, 6-1

FAIRFAX, Va. (April 5, 2004)-- George Mason University won its third straight match, defeating Morgan State, 6-1 to improve their record to 4-10. Mason won all the doubles matches and all but the number six singles match.

At Morgan State, the Patriots won the No. 1 through 5 singles matches in straight sets. Freshman Maricel Ballester defeated Cynthia Craig 6-2, 6-3, winning her 10th dual match of the season and improving to 4-0 at the number one position. Playing at the second singles spot Jenn Dektas defeated Mikita Johnson handily, 6-0, 6-2. Jamie Delorie played Renae Alleyne at the third position and won a competitive match, 6-4, 6-4. Katie Sloper and Natalie Oudar handled their matches, winning 6-1, 6-0, and 6-3, 6-2 respectively. The Patriots Melissa Wooten, in only her second match of the spring season, lost to Tiffany Hampton, 3-6, 1-6.

All three doubles matches were won by Patriots teams. The No. 3 Patriots team of Oudar/Bhalla was the only match easily won, blanking the Morgan State team of Rusheed/Eubanks, 8-0.

George Mason next plays Coppin State at home April 7 at 1:00.
