HARRISONBURG, Va. - George Mason had five players selected to the 2004 Colonial Athletic Association women's lacrosse first and second teams, in a vote of the league's eight head coaches. The announcement came Friday evening at the pre-championship banquet in Harrisonburg on the eve of the 2004 CAA Women's Lacrosse Championship hosted by top-seeded James Madison.

Patriot senior Stacy Berger (Baltimore, MD/Sparrows Point) and junior Meg Dentler (Crofton, MD/Arundel) earned first-team honors. Three others, senior Lisa Hagan (Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood), junior Kristy Manas (Harwood, MD/Southern) and sophomore Michele Brady (Fairfax, VA/Paul VI) were named to the all-CAA Second Team.

Berger, a defensive midfielder, is a two-time co-captain for the Patriots and has been a starter for three straight seasons. Having undoubtedly her best year at Mason, she is tied for fourth on the team in goals scored with 18, connecting at a team-leading 47.4 percent, and is fifth in scoring with 21 points. A pivotal presence both on offense and defense, Berger has collected 25 ground balls, caused 17 turnovers and has 14 draw controls. She has stepped up when the team has needed her most, recording a career-best four goals in a must-win game against Hofstra and scoring the game-tying goal against No. 8 James Madison, which sent that contest into overtime. She received her first-ever CAA Player of the Week honor on Apr. 19 after netting seven goals on eight shots in three games.

The 2002 CAA Rookie of the Year, Dentler returns to the all-CAA First Team for the second consecutive season. Playing in every minute of every game as the Patriot netminder, Dentler has proven to be one of the elite goalkeepers in the nation. She owns a 9.14 goals-against average and a 58.4 save percentage, both of which are tops among CAA goalkeepers who have been in the cage at least 70.0 percent of the time. Her save percentage ranks third nationally among all keepers, and she leads the conference in saves (194) and saves per game (12.93). She holds the Patriot record for career saves at 626 and is on pace for 200 or more saves for the third straight season. Dentler was honored as the CAA co-Player of the Week on Mar. 29 after stopping 37 shots for a 72.5 save percentage and 7.00 goals-against average in two Mason wins. She posted a career-best 24 saves at then-No. 15 Boston University on Mar. 27.

Hagan, a midfielder and 2004 team co-captain, garners second team honors for the fourth straight year. She has started every game this season and leads the team in assists (17), is second in scoring (35 points) and ranks tied for fourth in goals scored (18). She is tied for fourth in the league in assists per game. Hagan, who owns the Patriot record for career assists (78) and is second overall in points scored (150), has started 66 consecutive games in a Mason uniform and is one shy of tying the record of 67 set by Patriot standout Jill Toomey (2000-03).

Manas also returns to the all-CAA Second Team for the second straight year. A three-year starter at attack and a 2004 team co-captain, she currently leads George Mason in goals scored with 23 and in scoring with 37 points. Among CAA leaders, she is tied for ninth overall in assists per game. Manas is currently sixth on the Patriot career goals scored list (70), third in career assists (52) and fifth in career points.

Brady earns the nod as a member of the all-CAA Second Team for her first all-CAA award. She has started all 15 games on defense and leads the Patriots and the league in caused turnovers at 2.40 per contest, which is also ranked fourth nationally. She has held some of the nation's leading scorers to well below their averages, including Loyola's Rachel Shuck (0G, 0A), Hofstra's Becky Thorn (0G, 0A) and James Madison's Gail Decker (1G, 1A).

Fourth-seeded George Mason will play at top-seeded James Madison at 12 p.m. Saturday in the CAA Tournament.
