The George Mason men's and women's track and field teams traveled to the Penn Relays this past weekend and several athletes had top 10 finishes with some championships thrown into the mix.
On the men's side, sophomore Marc Kellman won the college division's triple jump with a leap of 15.48 meters. He then competed in the championship division where he finished sixth with a distance of 15.53. Also competing in the college division triple jump was Ryan McCoy, who was sixth with a mark of 14.82.
On the women's side, the 4X400-meter relay team won the ECAC division race with a time of 3:42.56. Paula Bailey, Sheena Davidson, Alyce Williams and Alycia Williams comprised that team. The Patriots were also second in the ECAC division of the 4X200-meter relay with a time of 1:36.55. The Williams sisters, Davidson and Kim Morgan ran for the Patriots.
The highest individual finisher for the women's team was Corri Allen, who was fifth in the long jump with a distance of 5.78 meters. Shamieka Louis also competed in that event, finishing 21st. Alyce Williams jumped in the triple jump and she had a sub-par performance, only jumping 12.45 meters, which put her in eighth. The only other individual competitor for the women was Nichole Brown, who failed to record a height in the high jump. The women also ran in the Championship of America division of the sprint medley, finishing eighth with a time of 3:56.21.
On the men's side, there were several other individuals competing with strong finishes. Quentin Matthews was fourth in the high jump's college division with a height of 2.10 meters. Jonathan Martin competed in the high jump's eastern division and he was tied for ninth with a jump of 1.96 meters. Richard Phillips was in the 110-meter hurdles college division and he finished fifth with a time of 13.96 seconds.
The Patriots will be in action this weekend in their only home outdoor meet of the season. The Patriot Open Invitational will begin at 10:30 a.m. with field events. The day's first running event is at Noon. The final event of the day should conclude around 5 p.m.
