Osceola, FL--George Mason's softball team (6-9) dropped a 15-2 decision to Virginia Tech at the Rebel Spring Games earlier this afternoon in Osceola, FL, but claimed a 9-4 victory over Eastern Kentucky in the second game of the day.
Freshman Megan Farrell (Medford, NJ) earned the loss against Virginia Tech as she gave up 15 runs off of 16 hits, while walking two Hokies and striking out two. Mason scored two runs on five hits as sophomore Missy Hartman (Manassas, VA) was 1-of-3, earning one RBI and Kim Braxton (Sr.; Lynchburg, VA) was 1-of-3 and earned one RBI for the Patriots.
Hartman led the way for Mason against E. Kentucky as she was 4-of-5 at the plate, scored three runs and earned two RBI. Ashley Purcell (So.; Herndon, VA) was 2-of-5 and scored three runs for the Patriots, while junior Stacy James (Leesburg, VA) was 3-of-5 and earned three RBI in the second game of the day. The other three runs for Mason were scored by freshman Liz Newton (Newport News, VA), Ashleigh McAfee (Fr.; Vienna, VA) and junior Jen Clawson (Woodbridge, VA).
Senior Miranda Fox (Hanover, PA) earned the win against Eastern Kentucky after only giving up four runs off of seven hits, while walking five and striking out three Lady Colonels.
The Patriots will return to action at the Rebel Spring Games on Mar. 8 as they compete against Lehigh at 8:50 a.m. and Indiana Purdue-Fort Wayne at 12:30 p.m.
