March 6, 2004

Boston, Mass. - The George Mason women's track and field teams competed in mostly preliminaries, but some finals on Saturday at the ECAC Championships at Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, with mixed results.

The team competed in 10 preliminaries on Saturday with the 4X400-meter team advancing to the finals along with Sheena Davidson in the 400-meters and Alycia Williams in the 500-meters. They will compete in finals on Sunday, along with Alyce Williams in the triple jump.

Also advancing to the finals were Corri Allen and Kim Morgan in the long jump. Unlike the other events, their final was held on Saturday and they finished fourth and seventh in the long jump with distances of 5.81-meters and 5.79-meters, respectively. They earned seven points for the Patriots who are tied for ninth in the team standings after six events. They are tied with William & Mary. The other three Colonial Athletic Conference teams competing failed to score any points on Saturday.

Also competing on Saturday was Nichole Brown in the high jump. There were no preliminaries in the event but she failed to score, finishing with a top height of 1.65-meters. Shamekia Louis and Alicia Lowery both competed in the 60-meters but were not in the top nine. Louis also competed in the long jump but did not advance to the finals.

Other George Mason competitors who came up short of advancing were Paula Bailey in the 400-meters, Sheena Goss in the 800-meters and Dana Early in the 1,000-meters.

The Patriots look in strong shape for the final day of competition at the ECAC meet. Davidson had the top qualifying time in the 400-meters and her preliminary time (53.91) places her as the No. 1 seed. Alyce Williams has the second-best distance in the triple jump (13.08-meters) heading into Sunday's competition and the 4X400-meter relay team had the second-best qualifying and preliminary time (3:43.38). Alycia Williams is the fifth seed in the 500-meters after a preliminary time of 74.58.
