FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason University's women's lacrosse team enters the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) top 20 poll for the first time this season, falling in at No. 20 overall in the latest release dated March 29. Princeton leads the rankings for the sixth consecutive week in the No. 1 position with all 15 first-place votes and 300 points. Georgetown (284) is second and Notre Dame (264) is third.
George Mason received 14 points and is tied with Stanford for the #20 spot. The Patriots opened the season as a team receiving votes in the IWLCA preseason poll, but fell out of the rankings after falling to then-No. 11 North Carolina and then-No. 15 Johns Hopkins. Last week, Mason registered two straight victories to improve to 2-2 on the season. The Patriots defeated George Washington at home, 14-6, and upset then-15th ranked Boston University, 10-8, in Boston.
The two wins helped propel junior goalkeeper Meg Dentler (Crofton, MD/Arundel) to being named the Colonial Athletic Association co-Player of the Week as well as a Warrior/InsideLacrosse honorable mention selection. She posted 13 saves against the Colonials and registered a career-best 24 saves versus the Terriers, collection a 72.5 save percentage and 7.00 goals-against average.
George Mason hosts No. 5 Loyola Wednesday at 7 p.m. before beginning CAA play at home Friday against Old Dominion at 7 p.m. Mason concludes the week at No. 17 William & Mary Sunday at 12 noon.
