Westover, MD-Patriots are in fourth place after day one of the sixth annual Drew Upton Memorial Towson Golf Tournament, only six strokes off the leader Liberty University. The two-day three-round tournament is held at the 7,047 yard, par 72 Great Hope Golf Course in Westover, MD.
The Patriots carded a 288 in the first round and a 294 in the second for a total of 582. George Mason is behind only Liberty (576), Towson University (579) and Rutgers (581) in the 19-team tournament. Patriot senior Craig Mason carded a first-round 68 and followed up with a 75 for a 143, good for a tie for fourth place. Mike Cavanagh was the top Patriot on the day, carding a consistent 71-71=142, placing him individually in third place.
Rounding out the rest of the Mason golfers, Daniel Hurley carded a 70-80=150, Nick DeSimone scored 79-74=153 and Ben Hogan notched a 80-74=154.
The final round will be played on Sunday.
