Fairfax, VA--The Patriots jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first 15:49 in the game en route to beating George Washington University, 14-6 at George Mason. Mason's Kristy Manas (Harwood, MD/Southern) scored the first two goals of the game, the first just 1:50 into the game, assisted by Lisa Hagan (Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) and the second on a free position shot with 26:36 left on the clock.
Tracy Waterson (Niskayuna, NY/Colonial Central) led all scorers with four goals, all in the first half. Two of her goals were unassisted, one was from a free position shot and the other assisted by Stacy Berger (Baltimore, MD/Sparrows Point). Kristy Manus and Kristen Olson each added three goals. Jeannine Ohler (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) added two goals for Mason.
Mason, which one its first game after playing two nationally ranked teams, improved to 1-2 on the season, led 9-2 at the half and went up 12-2 on three unanswered goals to start the second period. The Patriots Lisa Hagan scored the first goal of the second half unassisted at the 24:45 mark and assisted on the next goal from Kristy Manas. Hagan scored one goal and assisted on two for the game. Freshman Melissa Venturi (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) scored her only goal of the game unassisted.
George Washington, which drops to 2-5 on the season, scored four of the final six goals to make the difference. Laura Hostetler led the Colonials with three goals, including one with :03 remaining in the game, all three unassisted.
The Patriots held a slight 25-23 shot advantage, but Patriots goalkeeper Meg Dentler (Crofton, MD/Arundel) made 13 saves in the game. Freshman Emily Fortunato stopped seven shots for George Washington.
The Patriots travel to Boston University on Saturday before returning home to play Loyola on March 31.
