George Mason pitcher Stacen Gant had the best performance of his career last week when he struck out 13 batters and walked won in a complete game 4-1 win over William & Mary. On Tuesday, he was recognized for his effort by being named Colonial Athletic Association Co-Pitcher of the Week.
Gant improved to 5-0 on the year and lowered his earned-run average to 1.96. He has allowed less than one baserunner per inning while striking out nearly one per inning (45 in 46 innings).
Gant leads the CAA in wins, is second in strikeouts and third in ERA. He is also third in opposing batting average (.189) and first in innings pitched. This is the first time he has received such an honor.
Gant shared the award with Jarame Beaupre of Delaware, who threw a no-hitter against Hartford. Beaupre is currently first in the CAA in ERA (0.78) and opposing batting average (.150). Beaupre has pitched just 25 innings this year and started just three of the six games in which he has appeared.
