Ocala, FL - George Mason is in third place out of 15 teams at the Big Red Classic in Ocala, FL on day one of two in the team's first action of the spring season.
The Patriots, who shot scores of 292-297=589 over the par 72, 6,625-yard course, stand behind first-place Methodist College (564), and Florida Atlantic University (586).
Sophomore Mike Cavanagh (Perham, MN/Hibbing) led the Patriots, placing tied for fourth overall with a 72-72=144. Freshman Nick DeSimone (Sykesville, MD/Liberty) carded a 73-74=147 which was good for a tie at 12th place. Senior Craig Mason (Lorton, VA/Hayfield) stumbled a little in the first round, but bounced back with an even par in the second round, 76-72=148. Mike Kirby (Virginia Beach, VA/Kempsville) placed tied for 26th after shooting a team-best 71 in the first round for a 71-79=50.
Senior Ben Hogan (Centreville, VA/Centreville) shot 80-81=161 and Carl Jacobson carded 82-84=166 at the Lake Diamond Golf and Country Club in Ocala.
