Softball Splits in Day One of Pirate Classic

Mason Beats St. Bonaventure, Loses to Holy Cross

KISSIMEE, Fla. - George Mason's softball team split the two games on day five of the Rebel Spring Games, beating St. Bonaventure, 8-7 and losing to Holy Cross, 8-1. The Patriots move to 8-13 on the season.

In the first contest of the day against the Bonnies, Senior Dianna Austin (Fairfax, VA/Robinson) came on to pitch in relief and earned the victory. Stacy James (Leesburg, VA/Loudon County) hit the game-winning two-run double in the seventh, scoring Miranda Fox (Hanover, PA/New Oxford) and Ashley Purcell (Herndon, VA/Oakton). Kathy Hrycyna (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick) started the game on the mound.

In the second game, Dianna Austin was the starting pitcher, but gave up six runs in the first two innings. Kathy Hrycyna came in relief and gave up two runs.

The Patriots will return to action at the Rebel Spring Games on Mar. 12 as they compete against Indiana-Purdue at Fort Wayne at 12:30 p.m. and Toledo at 2:20 p.m.
