The George Mason University men's and women's track and field teams hosted the Winter Open on Sunday afternoon and the Patriots used the opportunity to warm up for next week's IC4A and ECAC meets in Boston, Mass.

The Patriots had already qualified men for 11 different spots at the IC4A and the women had qualified in 17 slots. While there were no new qualifiers for next week's championships, there were several seasonal bests by some of the athletes who will be competing next week.

On the women's side, Shamekia Louis won the long jump with a season-best 5.95-meters, just ahead of teammate Kim Morgan, who was second. Corri Allen was sixth in the event. All three will compete at the ECAC meet. Nicole Brown tied her season best in the high jump when she leaped 1.70-meters, a height which was good enough to qualify for the ECAC. Louis, Alicia Lowery and Kim Morgan finished first, second and third, respectively in the 55-meters and Louis and Lowery will both compete in the event next week.

Sheena Davidson won the 400-meters with Alycia Williams second and Paula Bailey fifth. All three will take the track next week. Sheena Goss won the 800-meters, an event in which she will appear at the ECAC. Alycia Williams won the 200-meters and she will take on some of the East Coast's best athletes in a week. Lowery, Morgan and Louis were third, fourth and fifth, respectively in the 200-meters. The Patriots also won the 4X400-meter relay with the B team finishing second. They will compete next week.

Other Patriots that did well at the Winter Open but won't be competeing next week include Aisha Williams, who won the triple jump with a leap of 11.34-meters and was fifth in the 55-meter hurdles, Kathy Williams, who won the 500-meters, and Dana Early, who had her seasonal-best in the 1,000-meters, good for a second-place finish.

For the men, Marc Kellman won the long jump with a jump of 7.55-meters. He had already qualified for the IC4A, but he earned a provisional spot at the NCAA meet with that jump, which was .01-meters better than his previous seasonal-best. Kellman also won the triple jump with a leap of 15.39. Ryan McCoy was second with a season-best jump of 15.26. Both will compete in that event next week, along with Wayne Wright.

Richard Phillips and Ricardo Melbourne were first and second, respectively, in the 60-meter hurdles. They had previous qualified provisionally and for the IC4A in both the 60-meter hurdles and 55-meter hurdles. Henry Harris, who had previously provisionally qualified for the NCAA meet in the 200-meters, won the event. Also winning on Sunday was Mashel Jackson, who won the 800-meters.
