MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - Nick Shimer hit a two-run homer as part of George Mason's 15-hit attack and Eric Gibbons pitched 5 2/3 strong innings lifting the Patriots to a 16-4 win over College of Charleston in college baseball action at Patriots Point Field on Sunday.
With the win, the Patriots improved to 3-0 on the season, while the Cougars suffered their first loss falling to 4-1.
Leading 1-0 in the second inning, the Patriots parlayed four hits, three walks, a wild pitch and an error into seven runs for an 8-0 lead.
Shimer's two-run blast in the sixth extended George Mason's lead to 11-1.
Chris Looze added four hits and scored a pair of runs while teammate Adam Innerst drove in three runs with three hits to pace George Mason.
The Cougars got three hits from Chris Campbell and a pair of hits and an RBI from Phillip Coker.
Gibbons (1-0) picked up the win allowing two runs, one earned, with four strikeouts. Ryan Edell (1-1) suffered the loss surrendering six runs, four earned, on four hits in just one inning of work.
