Greenville, NC--George Mason's softball team (2-3) fell to Towson by a score of 1-0 in the Patriots first game at the Pirate Classic in Greenville, NC, earlier this afternoon and Mason went on to defeat Delaware, 6-2, in the second match-up of the day.

Against the Tigers, senior Miranda Fox (Hanover, PA) pitched all seven innings and gave up one run off six hits, while walking three and striking out seven Towson players. Sophomore Ashley Purcell (Herndon, VA) led the Patriots offensively as she was 2-of-3 in the loss, while four other Patriots were 1-of-3.

In the second game of the day, junior Stacy James (Leesburg, VA) led the Patriots as she hit 3-of-5 and scored two runs and earned an RBI, while Purcell was 2-of-4 and scored a run against the Blue Hens. Sophomore Missy Hartman (Manassas, VA) scored two runs for Mason after hitting 1-of-3 in the win, while Kim Braxton (Sr.; Lynchburg, VA) earned one RBI and scored once (1-3). Junior Kathy Hrycyna (N. Brunswick, NJ) also earned an RBI for the Patriots against Delaware.

In the second game of the day, freshman Megan Farrell (Medford, NJ) earned the win as she pitched all seven innings and gave up two runs on five hits, while walking two and striking out two Blue Hens.

The Patriots will return to action on Feb. 21 when they face Fairfield (10 a.m.) and East Carolina (12 p.m.) in the second day of the Pirate Classic in Greenville, NC.
