BOSTON, MA -
The George Mason University men's track and field team traveled to Boston this weekend for the FasTrack Invitational and three performers had excellent meets, qualifying for the IC4A Championships as well as meeting provisional qualifying times for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Richard Phillips and Ricardo Melbourne each broke the George Mason record as well as the Boston University Track and Tennis Cneter facility record in the 55-meter hurdles while qualifying for the IC4A and provisionally qualifying for the NCAA meets. Melbourne finished the preliminary round in 7.30 seconds, breaking the school record of 7.32 seconds and the facility mark of 7.35. Phillips topped that in the finals with a time of 7.28 seconds to become the current school record holder.
Neither currently holds the facility mark, though, as Colin Aina of Rhode Island, the previous record holder, bettered his own mark with a 7.26 in the final round.
Henry Harris finished third in the 200-meters with a time of 21.52. He had previously qualified for the IC4A meet but his time was fast enough to provisionally qualify for the NCAA meet. He was the top-finishing collegian in the event by nearly a quarter of a second.
Finishing as the top collegian in multiple events was Marc Kellman. Kellman was first in the long jump with a leap of 7.11-meters. He was second in the triple jump with a jump of 14.87-meters, behind only Mark Axt of the LeMans Track Club. Ryan McCoy finished third for the Patriots in the triple jump.
The Patriots have next weekend off before hosting the Winter Open on Feb. 29.
