Raleigh, NC--George Mason University's softball team (1-2) fell to UNC Greensboro by a score of 7-5 earlier this afternoon at the Triangle Classic in Raleigh, NC.

Sophomore Ashley Purcell led the Patriots as she scored one run and earned an RBI after a 4-of-4 performance at the plate. Sophomore Missy Hartman was 2-4 and earned an RBI, while junior Kathy Hrycyna was 1-4 and also scored a point for Mason. Freshman Liz Newton earned an RBI and crossed home plate once, while junior Jen Clawson also scored for the Patriots with a 1-of-2 performance on the afternoon. Freshman Ashleigh McAfee also scored for Mason.

Freshman Megan Farrell pitched 5 2/3 innings for the Patriots and gave up six runs on eight hits, walked three and struck out three UNCG players. Senior Miranda Fox relieved Farrell to pitch one and 1/3 innings and gave up one run on one hit, while striking one and walking four.

Due to inclement weather, the Patriots will not play in the final day of the Triangle Classic as originally scheduled. Mason will return to action on Feb. 20-22 when the Patriots compete in the Pirate Classic in Greenville, NC.
