Raleigh, NC--George Mason University's softball team (1-1) notched its first victory of the 2004 season Friday evening against Coastal Carolina by a score of 7-1 at the Triangle Classic in Raleigh, NC.

Junior shortstop Stacy James was 2-5 against Coastal, one of which was a homerun, and James also earned two RBI. Sophomore Ashley Purcell was 2-3 and had one RBI, while senior Miranda Fox was 2-4 with one RBI.

Fox pitched seven innings to earn the win after giving up four hits, striking out six and walking six Chanticleers.

The Patriots will return to action on Feb. 14 in the 'Gold Bracket' of the Triangle Classic. Mason will compete against UNC Greensboro at 1 p.m.
