Results

Fairfax, Va.--Both of George Mason University's swimming & diving teams are in the lead over all three opponents at the close of the first day of competition of the Colonial Athletic Association Pod Meet which happened Friday evening at the Aquatic & Fitness Center. The final score after tomorrow's competition will determine who wins the head-to-head dual meets as there is still one more day to decide the winner of the separate meets.

Unlike an Invitational, the Pod Meet is set-up to where there is essentially 12 dual meets happening at the same time.

On the men's side, Mason is ahead of College of Charleston by a score of 138-43, is also in the lead over Davidson, 114-71, and maintains a 113-71 lead over Drexel. Mason claimed six first place finishes on Friday, including two relay teams. Tom Koucheravy swam the 1,650-yard freestyle in 15:50.08 to finish first, while David Cooper placed first in the 100 breaststroke (59.97). Joe Houchin was almost four seconds faster than the second place athlete in the 200 butterfly as Houchin finished in a time of 1:53.87 for first place and Tim Norton was the final individual on the men's side to win an event as he claimed the 400 IM title as he garnered a time of 4:05.77.

The Patriot women are ahead of Charleston, 129-55, have 125 points to Davidson's 55 and will look to maintain its 139-46 lead over Drexel tomorrow. The women collected five first place finishes, including a strong showing by Mallory Pucci in the 200 free as she edged out her opponent by .04 seconds and won with a time of 1:56.84. Liz Ouzts finished the 100 breast in 1:07.20 for a first place finish, while Sarah Bizer (24.49) and Emily Welty (54.89) placed first and second, respectively, in the 50 free.

The Patriots, along with the other three schools, will resume action tomorrow for the final day of the CAA Pod Meet at 1:30 p.m. at the Aquatic & Fitness Center.
