Fairfax, Va.--George Mason University swept William & Mary in swimming & diving compeition earlier this evening at the Aquatic & Fitness Center as the women won by a score of 143-100 and the men tallied 136 points to the Tribe's 99. With this win the Patriot women now stand at 2-1 overall (2-0 CAA), while the Tribe falls to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in league play, while Mason's men's team holds an overall record of 2-0 (2-0 CAA) and W&M now has an overall mark of 0-3 and 0-2 in CAA action.
The women's team captured nine titles against W&M, which included three for Christy Anderson. Anderson swam the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:40.78 and then went on to place first in the 200 IM (2:11.02) and the 500 free (5:15.05). Mary Campioli swept the diving events as she garnered 277.05 points in the 3-meter diving event and went on to amass 282.52 points in the 1-meter event for first place.
On the men's side, the Patriots collected 10 first place finishes, three of which were earned by both Tim Norton and Tom Koucheravy. Norton swam the 200 medley in 1:36.44 to finish first and went on to claim the 200 IM title (1:56.19). Koucheravay swam the 200 free in 1:43.59 to place first and went on to amass a time of 9:54.91 in the 1,000 free for a victory. John Appleman also swept the diving awards against the Tribe for the Patriots as he amassed 261.30 points in the 1-meter diving event and then collected 279.45 points in the 3-meter diving event.
The Patriots will return to action when they host East Carolina at the Aquatic & Fitness Center at 1 p.m. on Oct. 30.
