ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- George Mason's women's swimming and diving team fell to area foe Navy by a score of 175-125 Friday night at Lejeune Hall. The Patriots open their dual meet season at 0-1, while the Mids improve to 3-0 on the year.
Senior diver Mary Campioli (Falls Church, Va.) recorded victories in the 1- and 3-meter diving events. Campioli out distanced Navy's Katie Griffin, 238.50 to 224.32, to earn the win in the 1-meter event and defeated Griffin, 268.42 to 250.20 in the 3-meter.
Sophomore Liz Ouzts (Newport News, Va.) won the 100- and 200-meter breaststroke competitions in a time of 1:12.95 and 2:38.65, respectively, while senior Stefani Lubore (Ashburn, Va.) claimed the 200-meter backstroke (2:24.28).
Navy never trailed in the meet, garnering first-place finishes in 11 of the night's 16 events. However, the Patriots did earn several second and third-place finishes in several races, including the 200-meter medley relay, the 200-meter butterfly, the 50-meter freestyle, and the 200-meter IM.
Four months after undergoing open-heart surgery, Navy's Tori Throckmorton nearly set pool records in each of her four events. She was on the winning 200-meter medley relay team (2:00.91) and the 400-meter freestyle relay squad (3:58.77). Throckmorton also won the 100-meter backstroke in a time of 1:06.26 and the 100-meter butterfly (1:04.03).
George Mason will return to action Saturday when they travel to Delaware.
