Patriots Have Strong Showing at Potomac Relays

Fairfax, Va.--George Mason University's swimming teams competed in the 10th Annual Potomac Relays at the Reeves Aquatic Center in Washington, D.C. Friday evening and the women's team garnered a second place finish with 292 points, while the men's team placed third with 304 points.

On the women's side, the Patriots competed against six other institutions and went on to collect eight top-5 finishes, five of which were second place showings. The Patriots `A' team of Brittany Suckovich, Brooke Crowther and Lacy Richardson finished with a second place time of 3:03.69 in the 300-yard fly, while another of Mason's `A'teams of Emily Welty, Rebecca Jimenez and Stefani Lubore closed out the 300-yard back in 3:02.40 for second place honors.

For the men, the Patriots garnered nine top-5 finishes against five other teams, including a first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle. Mason's `A' team of Mike Peterson, Eric Wellington, Matthew McGillicuddy and B.J. Dufresne swam the 200-yard free in 1:28.95 to edge Lafayette College who closed out the race in 1:29.61. In the 400-yard medley relay, Joe Houchin, Andrew Ryder, McGillicuddy and Matt Elko garnered a second place finish with a time of 3:42.03, while Tom Koucheravy and Matthew Kane finished in second in the 1,000-yard free wiht a time of 9:43.48.

Mason's women's team will return to action on Oct. 22 as the Patriots will compete against Navy in Annapolis (5 p.m.) and both teams will face conference-foe Delaware in Newark the following day at 1 p.m.
