The George Mason men's cross country team hosted the Mason Invitational on Saturday and one area school was clearly dominant on the course as American scored an exceptional 23 points to easily win in the six-team field. Pat Burford was the top scorer, finishing in a time of 26:21.93. American also had scorers with three, four, six and nine points.
James Madison finished second, just ahead of Radford. The Dukes had 60 points while Radford had 68. Howard was fourth, with 103, George Washington was fifth, with 123, and George Mason was sixth, with 149.
The Patriots were paced by Dennis Moriarty who was 22nd overall and the 19th-place scorer. He finished in a time of 27:58.76. John Crain was next for Mason, in 28:27.55, followed by Ricardo Cunningham (28:47.37), Ryan Davis (28:49.46) and Ben Sommers (29:38.48). Charles Bowles and Paul Gilbride also ran for George Mason.
The Patriots will next compete at the University of Maryland on Saturday at 10 a.m.
