The George Mason men's golf team competed at the James Madison Invitational at Lakeview GC in Harrisonburg, Va. this weekend and the Patriots narrowly missed a top-10 finish as they had to settle for 11th in a 15-team field.
The Patriots had a combined score of 873 over the 36-holes, finishing three strokes out of a tie for 10th and six strokes out of a tie for eighth.
Mike Cavanagh paced the Patriots with a 215. He was par (71) on the first 18 and the final 18 and 2-over par on the middle 18. Nick DeSimone was second on the team with a 219. He was the only Patriot to break par in a round. He opened with a 77 but then shot a 2-under-par 69. He finished with a 73.
J.J. Amoruso was consistent with a 73, 73, 75 to finish with a 221. Mike Kirby was at 225 over the three rounds while David Murnane was at 230, due in large part to a final-round 81.
Towson won the event with a score of 839. James Madison was fifth with a mark of 860 while Drexel posted an 868, which place it ninth.
The Patriots are next in action this Sunday through Thursday when they travel to East Carolina's Pirate Fall Intercollegiate at the Bradford Creek Golf Course in Greenville, N.C.
