Mason's Emison Wins 133-Pound Weight Class at Millersville/Hitchcock Classic

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. (Jan. 3,2004) - George Mason freshman David Emison (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) captured the 133-pound individual wrestling title with a 12-5 decision over Mike Lupa of Maryland at the Millersville/Hitchcock Classic, held Saturday, Jan. 3, at Millersville University. As a team, the Patriots finished fourth out of five schools with a team score of 82.0. Appalachian State won the meet with 144 points, followed by Maryland (96.5) and host Millersville (90). The University of Pennsylvania was fifth (81).

Emison, improved his record to 9-5 on the season after posting three wins en route to the title, including a 15-0 technical fall in the quarterfinals over Twayna Holley, who wrestled unattached.

Several other Patriots placed highly at the meet as freshmen Robert Henry (Dumfries, VA/Potomac) finished fourth at 149, Mitch Webster (Towanda, PA/Towanda) listed third at 157, Harry Zander (National Park, NJ/Gateway Regional) ranked third at 197 and Ryan Kittrick (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Coughlin) finished fourth in the Heavyweight division.

Other Mason wrestlers in attendance included freshmen Brian Callam (133), Dan Yates (141), Matt Horton (165), Jamey Brice (184), Jerry Connolly (Hwt), sophomore Brian Smith (157) and senior Sandy Ailor (Hwt).

The Patriots enter their dual match season Friday, Jan. 16, when they host Virginia Military Institute at the John Linn Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.
