FAIRFAX, Va. - Three teams each won two wrestling matches after day one of the Colonial Athletic Association Duals, held Friday evening at the George Mason University Fieldhouse. Nationally-ranked teams Hofstra and Rider both scored impressive wins in the second annual event. Drexel also performed well, earning two wins. George Mason and James Madison split their two matches.

In round one, Rider dropped George Mason by a 29-12 score. Seniors Rob Becker (Mickleton, NJ/Clearview Regional) and Adrian Austin (Colonial Heights, VA/Matoaca) won at 141 and 149, respectively. Senior Sean Early (Virginia Beach, VA/Kempsville) also recorded a victory at 165. Other round one action included James Madison over Wagner (28-15), Boston University over Campbell (40-3), Hofstra trumping Binghamton (39-9) and Drexel topping Old Dominion (25-19).

The Patriots rebounded in round two, following a 39-12 win against Wagner. Freshman David Emison (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) recorded a win at 133. Becker, Austin and Early remained undefeated on the day with two more victories at 141, 149 and 165, respectively. Freshman Matt Horton (Annandale, VA/Paul VI) picked up a forfeit win at 174, while freshmen Jim Martin (Forty Fort, PA/Wyoming Valley West) at 184 and Harry Zander (National Park, NJ/Gateway Regional) at 197 each had major decision victories. Senior Sandy Ailor (Richmond, VA/Douglass S. Freeman) recorded a pinfall win at Heavyweight.

The second round included a shutout victory for Rider over Old Dominion, 45-0. Also in the win column was Drexel against Binghamton (28-10), Sacred Heart over James Madison (37-6) and Hofstra defeating Campbell (36-12).

All 11 CAA teams will be in action again at the George Mason University Fieldhouse on Saturday, beginning with round three at 11 a.m.
