Tough Day for Mason Men's Tennis at the DC Metro Championships

- George Mason men's tennis did not fare well at the DC Metro Championships (DCMC) Friday. Five players lost their first round matches at the event, which is being held on the Georgetown and American University tennis courts this weekend.

Most notably, senior Tito Ballester (Lima, Peru), who won the Washington & Lee Invitational two weeks ago and was seeded No. 2 at the DCMC, fell in straight sets 6-7, 4-6 to Maryland's Troy Demers in the flight A main draw.

Junior Tim Bainton (Chobham Surrey, UK) lost to Marius Weigert of George Washington, 6-7, 5-7, in the flight A bracket.

Patriot freshman Brendan O'Connor (Troy, NY/Troy) was downed 4-6, 4-6 to Towson's Joel Young in the flight B draw, and sophomore Miles Hughes (Lowry, VA/Jefferson Forest) fell 3-6, 1-6 to Adam Wessinger of Loyola in flight B. Matt Nardizzi dropped a 2-6, 0-6 flight C match to a player from Mount St. Mary's.

These student-athletes must now play in the consolation draw Saturday at American at 8 a.m.
