Patriots Fourth at JMU Invitational

Patriot Men, Women Finish Fourth at JMU Invitational

NEW MARKET, VA ... The George Mason cross country teams each placed fourth Saturday as both competed at the James Madison Invitational at the New Market Battlefield Park. The George Mason women scored 105 points to finish behind JMU (18), George Washington (42) and Howard (96), while the Mason men scored 112 points to place behind JMU (21), George Washington (45) and Howard (83).

Junior Sara Hines led the Patriot women for the second week in a row as she finished 12th overall with a time of 21 minutes, 25.4 seconds over the 5,000-meter course. She was followed by senior Dana Early, who was 18th in 21:38.6; senior Sheena Goss, 26th in 22:43.6; junior Ryann Holmes, 28th in 22:52.6; and senior Rose Moeser, 33rd in 23:06.7. For scoring purposes (the placing of the top five finishers determines the team score), Early was 16th, Goss was 23rd, Holmes 25th and Moeser 29th.

Sophomore Andy Tramel led the George Mason men over the 8,000-meter course by finishing 18th overall with a time of 27 minutes, 58.5 seconds. He was followed by sophomore Dennis Moriarty, who was 23rd in 28:15.4; senior Ricardo Cunningham, 29th in 29:12.3; junior Mike Akindele, 44th in 32:27.1; and freshman Bryan MacWilliams, 48th in 33:23.6. For scoring purposes, Tramel was 12th, Moriarty was 17th, Cunningham 21st, Akindele 30th and MacWilliams 32nd.

Both teams will compete at the George Washington Invitational Saturday at Bull Run Regional Park, located west of Centreville, VA. This will serve as a tune-up for the Mason Invitational, which will be hosted by the Patriots and run on the same course on Oct. 4.
