FAIRFAX, VA ... Former George Mason baseball standout Adam Shorts has signed a free agent contract with the New York Yankees and has been assigned to the Staten Island (NY) Yankees of the New York-Penn League, a short-season Class A affiliate. He joined the Yankees in February and has been participating in their extended spring training program.
A native of Land-O-Lakes, FL, and a 1998 graduate of Land-O-Lakes High School, Shorts played two seasons at George Mason after transferring from Seminole Community College. As a senior in 2002, Shorts played both second and third base while batting .316 with 12 doubles, six home runs and 35 runs batted in, ranking third on the team in home runs, tied for third in doubles, fourth in batting and fifth in RBI. He also ranked second on the Patriots as he was successful in each of his 26 stolen base attempts, and that total ranks him tied for fifth for a single season in George Mason history.
