Mason-Hofstra Box Score | Mason-Towson Box Score

Hempstead, N.Y. - George Mason was eliminated from the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Softball Tournament today after dropping a 6-0 game to Hofstra and then a 2-1 decision to Towson.

In the Hofstra game, the Pride got all the offense it would need in the first inning when sophomore designated player Stefanie Kenney hit a two-out, two-run double with the bases loaded.

Hofstra added two more in the second on a pair of RBI-singles, and freshman third baseman Tara Ulrich capped off the scoring with an RBI-double in the fourth to make the score 6-0.

Both teams had plenty of scoring chances, as George Mason stranded 11 runners on the game, while Hofstra stranded eight.

For the Patriots, sophomore shortstop Stacy James, who batted 2-for-4, and junior first baseman Kim Braxton, who was 2-for-3 each had multi-hit games.

Starting pitcher Miranda Fox worked just 1.2 innings and took the loss. She gave up five hits, four runs - all earned - and walked two before giving way to Rene Leveque, who closed out the game. Leveque struck out three, scattered three hits and gave up two earned runs during her 5.1 innings.

After dropping into the loser's bracket, Mason was eliminated from the tournament after Towson scored in the bottom of the seventh to snap a deadlocked game and secure a 2-1 decision.

The Patriots, after spotting the Tigers one run in the bottom of the first, tied the game in the fifth inning when Hartman hit a bases-loaded groundout that allowed Austin to score. Mason was one out away from sending the game into extra innings, but Towson scored a runner from second on a single to left field.

Austin, who pitched the full game, took the loss for the Patriots. She scattered five hits, walked three, struck out one and gave up two earned runs.

At the tournament's conclusion, James and Braxton were named to the All-Tournament Team.
