HARRISONBURG, Va. - The James Madsion University softball team lost its season finale 2-1 to Colonial Athletic Association opponent George Mason on Sunday afternoon at the JMU softball complex. The Patriots got seven strong innings of one-run softball from starting pitcher senior Rene Leveque.

GMU put its two runs on the board in the top of the third inning as sophomore Jen Clawson and junior Miranda Fox led off the inning with back-to-back singles. Sophomore Stacy James would advance Fox on a fielder's choice, with Clawson being thrown out at third. Fox would later score the first run of the game on a JMU error and a junior Kim Braxton RBI bunt single would score James from third giving the Patriots a 2-0 advantage.

JMU would get one run back in the bottom of the fifth as freshman Megan Smith (Sterling, Va./Park View) scored on an RBI single by freshman Tricia Berryman (Buckingham, Va./Buckingham Co.). JMU left the bases loaded in the fifth and stranded a total of nine runners on the day.

Leveque was strong on the mound for GMU going seven full innings, allowing one run on five hits to pick up the victory. James and Fox each had a pair of hits for the Patriots.

Freshman Lauren Curtis (Seattle, Wash./Ballard) was 2-3 on the day for the Dukes and finished the three-game set 8-11 (.727). Freshman Kelly Ann Berkemeier (Dallas, Texas/Greenhill) and red-shirt junior Leah Evert (McLean, Va./ McLean) each had a hit for JMU.

The Dukes finished the season with an 18-31 overall record and a conference mark of 5-9. GMU improved to 29-20 overall and 9-6 in the CAA.
