FAIRFAX, VA ... The Colonial Athletic Association baseball weekend series between George Mason and William & Mary has been totally cancelled due to unplayable field conditions. Sunday marked the third straight day the two teams were unable to play because of inclement weather conditions.
Due to the cancellation of the series, George Mason becomes the No. 6 seed for this week's OBX/CAA Baseball Championship in Manteo, NC. The Patriots finish the regular season with a 28-18 overall record, 9-8 in the CAA.
Virginia Commonwealth (41-11, 17-3 CAA) and UNC Wilmington (36-19, 15-6 CAA) had already clinched the top two seeds, respectively, while William & Mary (30-18, 12-4 CAA), based on winning percentage, will be the No. 3 seed. James Madison (29-25, 13-7 CAA) will be seeded fourth and Towson (28-23, 11-9 CAA) will be the No. 5 seed.
George Mason will face VCU in the first game of the tournament Wednesday, May 21, at 12 p.m. at Coy Tillett Memorial Field. UNC Wilmington will meet Towson at 3:30 p.m. and William & Mary will square off with James Madison at 7 p.m. to complete the day's action. The tournament continues through Saturday.
