Women's Track & Field Successful at Duke Invitational

DURHAM, NC ... The George Mason University women's track & field team competed at the 16th annual Duke Invitational, held at the North Carolina Central University Track in Durham, NC, from Friday, April 4, through Saturday, April 5.

The women's 4x400-meter relay of senior NamTasha Joyner (Richmond, VA/John F. Kennedy), junior Sheena Goss (Elk Grove, CA/Laguna Creek), sophomore Tysha Colon (Washington, DC/HD Woodson) and freshman Alycia Williams (Palm Coast, FL/Flagler Palm Coast) posted another qualifying mark for the first-ever NCAA East Regional Championships that will be held at George Mason University from Friday, May 30, through Saturday, May 31. The relay placed third in 3:43.83.

The women's 4x100-meter relay of junior Kim Morgan (Houston, TX/Alief Hastings), Joyner, Colon and sophomore Sheena Davidson (Rochester, NY/Edison Tech) was also successful, finishing runner-up in 46.27 seconds.

Individually, Goss placed third among the collegians in the 800 meters in a season-best 2:13.51, followed by Williams in fourth in 2:14.21. Joyner also picked up a top-five finish in the 200 meters, placing fifth in a season-best 24.83 seconds.

Davidson was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:01.77, while freshman Jessica Cross (Marathon, NY/Marathon Central) placed eighth in the shot put with a 41-foot, 1?-inch performance. Sophomore Sara Hines (Strasburg, VA/Strasburg) finished ninth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a personal-best 12:00.60 -- the second-best performance in the event by a Patriot.

The George Mason men's and women's track & field teams return to action this weekend at the University of Tennessee's annual Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, TN, from Friday, April 11, through Saturday, April 12.
