FAIRFAX, Va. - Senior Dinali DeSilva (Negombo, Sri Lanka/Stafford International School) and freshman Jenn Dektas (Maineville, OH/Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy) both earned wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, however it wasn't enough as Towson downed George Mason 5-2 in a Colonial Athletic Association women's tennis match at the GMU Tennis Courts Wednesday afternoon.
The Patriots fall to 3-10 overall and 1-5 in the CAA.
DeSilva bested her opponent, 6-2, 6-2, while Dektas won 6-2, 6-3. DeSilva also teamed with freshman Kelly Melichar (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock) at No. 2 doubles, where the tandem posted an 8-2 win. The Tigers won the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Sophomore Katie Sloper (Alexandria, VA/Bishop Ireton) also performed; she lost 7-5, 7-6(6) at #4 singles.
George Mason hosts UNC Wilmington Saturday at 10 a.m. as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.
