BALTIMORE -- Sophomore Talia Shacklock scored four goals to lead the No. 2 Loyola Greyhounds to a 14-5 victory over George Mason University Wednesday afternoon at Curley Field. Loyola remains undefeated at 9-0 while GMU falls to 4-4 on the season.
Kate Scott got the Patriots on the board early, just 53 seconds in on her unassisted goal. It was nearly another four minutes before the Greyhounds got on the boards at 4:38 with a goal from Rachel Shuck of the feed from Stephanie Walker. Loyola would score the next seven straight goals to take a 8-1 lead in the game. Shacklock and Eyler each added two goals in the Loyola spurt and Susan Tyrrell, Kourtney Porcella and Walker each recorded a goal.
Lisa Hagan scored the last GMU goal of the first half on her free position shot at 25:06 before Shacklock ended first half scoring with her third goal of the game at 29:35 with a 9-2 score.
Scott again opened the half with a GMU goal at 37:31 on a feed from Kristy Manas before Porcella began a four-goal run for Loyola. Eyler and Shacklock added their third and fourth goals respectively and sophomore Katie Guarino scored her first goal of the season to set the score at 14-3.
Jeannine Ohler converted the second free-position shot for the Patriots at 53:51 before Jen Stocker scored on a pass from Emilie Patterson at 54:46 for the final Loyola goal. Manas closed out scoring with a GMU goals at 57:34.
Shacklock finished with four goals while Eyler scored three to lead the Greyhounds. Porcella finished with two goals while Shuck, Walker, Tyrrell, Stocker and Guariona each added one. Shuck also added three assists and Patterson, Porcella and Walker each tallied one.
Kate Scott lead GMU with two goals while Manas and Hagan each had a goal and an assist and Ohler tallied one goal.
Loyola goalies Kim Lawton and Cindy Nicolaus each recorded six saves while George Mason's goalie Meg Dentler stopped 15 Loyola shots.
Mason travels to No. 11 North Carolina Friday to take on the Tar Heels. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
