FAIRFAX, VA...George Mason pitcher Miranda Fox threw a complete-game two-hitter as the Patriots salvaged the second game of doubleheader Saturday by defeating Delaware 1-0. Mason lost the first game to the visiting Fightin' Blue Hens, 5-3.

Mason is now 23-20 overall, 5-6 in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), while Delaware is 16-17-1 and 6-5 in the conference.

Fox, who went 2-for-2 at the plate for the Patriots, allowed just two singles and struck out three in the nightcap, while Kathy Hrycyna drove in the game's only run with a fourth-inning single.

With one out in the fourth, Tasha Galecki singled to right-center and moved to second when the ball was misplayed in the outfield. She advanced to third on groundout back to the pitcher and scored when Hrycyna dropped a hit into shallow left field.

Delaware's Lindsay Jones scattered six hits in her complete game effort for the Blue Hens, striking out two and allowing the one unearned run.

In the first game, Mason scored once in both the first and second innings and starter Dianna Austin held Delaware to one hit during their first three at-bats before the Blue Hens exploded for five runs in the fourth.

The Delaware outburst featured three doubles, including a two-run job by Jenn Joseph, and back-to-back RBI-singles from Kelley Pastic and Jenny Gilkins. Liz Winslow started the inning with a double and her pinch-runner, Heather Wrenn, scored on the next play when Laurie Erickson hit her own two-base shot.

The rally knocked Austin from the game, as she finished with 3.1 innings, five earned runs, three walks and three strikeouts. Rene Leveque closed out the game for Mason, allowing just two hits while recording two strikeouts.

Joseph got the complete-game win for the Blue Hens, allowing six hits and three earned runs. She walked seven batters and struck out three.

Mason scored on RBI-singles from Galecki and Stacy James and a sacrifice fly from Kim Braxton. James closed out the game 3-for-5.

The Patriots and Blue Hens close out their CAA series Sunday with a single game that starts at noon. A few minutes prior to the first pitch, Mason will honor its two seniors, Galecki and Leveque.
