Toomey, Dentler Receive Weekly Lacrosse Accolades

FAIRFAX, Va. - Senior All-American attacker Jill Toomey and sophomore goalkeeper Meg Dentler have been honored for their recent performances through games of April 20, as Toomey was named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week and Dentler was selected the GoalieNation.com Goalkeeper of the week, the two organizations recently announced. These are the first such honors for both individuals this season.

Toomey, a native of Annapolis, MD, led the Patriots to a 2-1 week, scoring 16 goals and two assists for 18 points, while shooting 51.6 percent. She also possessed 14 ground balls, four caused turnovers, and nine draw controls. The Broadneck High School product tallied five goals, three ground balls, and three draw controls in a 14-8 win over Drexel, and exploded for seven goals and two assists, tying George Mason records for points and goals in a game, in a 18-4 win over Delaware. She also had seven ground balls, two caused turnovers and two draw controls in the contest. Toomey had four goals, four ground balls and four draw controls in a 15-8 loss to fourth-ranked Virginia.

Dentler, recorded a season-high 17 saves in the contest versus the Cavaliers. The Crofton, MD native concluded the week with 10 saves against Drexel and 14 saves versus Delaware. A graduate of Arundel High School, Dentler produced an 8.62 goals-against average and 62.1 save percentage for the week.

Toomey leads the Patriots this season in goals scored (45), points (56), and draw controls (30). She ranks fourth in the CAA in scoring at 4.00 points per game and is third in goals per game with 3.21. She is a two-time first-team All-CAA selection and holds several Patriot records, including points and goals in a game, points and goals in a season, as well as points and goals in a career. She is two draw control shy of owning the Mason record for that category also.

Dentler, the 2002 CAA Rookie of the Year, boasts a 9.44 GAA and leads the CAA in save percentage at 56.6. She has the best save percentage and goals-against average among CAA goalkeepers who have played more than 500 minutes this season. As of games played through April 13, Dentler ranked 14th in the nation in save percentage. Her 225 saves in 2002 are a single-season Patriot record.

George Mason is 7-7 overall and concluded the regular season with a 4-3 conference mark, falling in a three-way tie for third place in the standings. The Patriots make their 10th straight appearance in the CAA women's lacrosse tournament as the #3 seed this Saturday in Norfolk, VA on the campus of Old Dominion University, when Mason takes on eighth-ranked and #2-seed James Madison at 2:30 p.m. in the conference's second semifinal game. Host Old Dominion battles #4 seed Hofstra at 12 noon.
