BALTIMORE - Patriot freshman Stephan Dufils (Paris, France) won his match at No. 3 singles, preventing a sweep as UMBC downed George Mason 6-1 in men's tennis action Thursday afternoon at the UMBC Tennis Courts. Mason falls to 3-9 on the season.
Dufils won 6-3, 6-4 over his opponent, James Tyler of UMBC. Mason's tandem of senior Cem Akalin (Goetzingen, Luxembourg) and sophomore Tim Bainton (Chobham Surrey, UK) won at No. 2 doubles, 8-6. However, the Retrievers were victorious at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions to earn the doubles point.
George Mason hosts Coppin State Friday at 11:30 a.m. at the Burke Racquet Club.
