Mason Tennis Gets Swept on Day Two of VCU 4-1 Invitational

BURKE, Va. - George Mason's women's tennis team fell to 1-6 on the season after dropping a 7-0 decision to visiting Maryland-Baltimore County Saturday evening at Burke Racquet Club.

The Patriots lost five of the six singles matches in straight sets. Senior Dinali DeSilva (Negombo, Sri Lanka/Stafford International School) took her match to three sets at No. 1. DeSilva won the first set, 6-1, but fell 6-0, 6-3 in sets two and three.

Freshman Jenn Dektas (Maineville, OH/Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy) also performed well at No. 2, almost taking her opponent to three sets. But, she would fall, 6-3, 7-5.

"I was impressed with our top two singles players, Dinali and Jenn, this evening," stated head coach Michael Coleman. "They played well and fought hard until the very end."

Freshman Caroline Kanaskie (West Chester, PA/Unionville) saw dual match action for the first time this season when she teamed with fellow frosh Kathleen Moore (Franklin, VA/Franklin) at No. 3 doubles. The duo fell, 8-0. It was Moore's first taste of collegiate tennis this season.

Mason visits Howard Thursday, March 6, at 2:30 p.m.
