CONWAY, S.C. - Coastal Carolina pounded out a season-high 14 hits, as the Chanticleers cruised past George Mason, 11-3, Wednesday afternoon at Charles Watson Stadium. Coastal improves to 16-3 on the season, while George Mason falls to 4-6.
Coastal scored four in the first inning, once in the second, twice in the third, and four in the fourth, to build a 11-0 cushion before George Mason scored their first run in the sixth off a ground out to third by Evan Howard that scored Bruce Baldwin from third.
Mike Costanzo led the way for Coastal offensively, belting out a game-high three hits, including a two-run home run in the third inning. Ryan McGraw, Tyler Hasbrouck, Patrick Nichols and Steve Pinocchio added two hits each. Pinocchio also drove in four runs, which included a three-run home run in the first inning. Matt Cooksey, Jeff Palumbo and Bruce Baldwin paced George Mason with two hits.
Steve Soja (1-0) picked up the win allowing no runs in four innings, while Marcus Davis (0-1) suffered the loss allowing five runs in one-plus innings of work.
Coastal will travel to Malibu, Calif., for a three-game series with Pepperdine. The three game series opens on Friday at 2 p.m. (PST), followed by one game on Saturday at 1 p.m. (PST). The series concludes on Sunday at 1 p.m. (PST). George Mason returns home for a three-game series with Marist beginning on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
