FAIRFAX, VA ... George Mason University freshman Alyce Williams (Palm Coast, FL/Flagler Palm Coast) of the women's track & field team was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division I Field Athlete of the Week.
Williams won the women's triple jump at last Saturday's Patriot Games with a personal-best 43-foot, ?-inch performance to set a new indoor school record and provisionally qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Just 1? inches off the automatically qualifying NCAA mark, Williams is the first Patriot to post an NCAA-qualifying performance this indoor season. She currently ranks seventh in the nation according to the latest NCAA descending order list, and was picked to finish ninth at the national championships in Trackwire's Dandy Dozen power rankings.
The 5-9 true freshman also competes in the 200 meters, 4x400-meter relay and high jump for the Patriots. She posted the team's second-best time in the 200 meters, runs the first leg on the team's 4x4 and recorded a personal-best performance of 5 feet, 3 inches in the high jump earlier this season.
A native of Palm Coast, FL, Williams was a state champion in the triple jump as a prep at Flagler Palm Coast High School. She also won district and regional titles in the 100 meters, 200 meters, triple jump, high jump and as part of the 4x400-meter relay, setting school records in each event.
Williams and the George Mason women's track & field team are off this weekend, but resume competition hosting the GMU Collegiate Open on Saturday, February 15.
