FAIRFAX, VA--George Mason University's swimming and diving teams defeated the College of Charleston at the Stern Center in Charleston, SC, Sunday afternoon for the Patriots third meet in four days. Mason's women (3-1) tallied 126 points to the Cougars 110, while the men registered 137 points to Charleston's 83.

"The meet went well and we had some very good performances," said head coach Peter Ward. "I was very pleased with the team getting up and racing when they have competed in three meets in four days, which means a lot of travel and weary legs. They raced well and I enjoyed the meet."

Out of 13 events, the Patriot women garnered eight first place finishes. Senior Samantha Ladeveze (Chesapeake, VA) placed first in the 50-meter freestyle event with a time of 28.09 and finished first in the 100-meter freestyle in 1:01.77, while Meg Haley of the College of Charleston placed second (1:01.84). Senior Ashley Craw (Nashville, TN) collected a score of 240.00 for first place in the one-meter dive for Mason, while Jamie Downing (Sr.; Midlothian, VA) finished on top in the three-meter dive (254.40).

"The divers continue to show their dominance regularly by placing in three of the top-four spots at our meets and I am very pleased with how they are competing," said Ward.

On the men's side, sophomore Tim Norton (Virginia Beach, VA) garnered a first place finish in the 800-meter freestyle event with a time of 8:42.22, while Tom Koucheravy (Fr.; Fairfax, VA) and junior Mike Peterson (Springfield, VA) rounded out the top-three with times of 8:43.52 and 9:11.09, respectively, for a total of 16 points for the Patriots. Norton also placed first in the 100-meter backstroke (1:01.28), while Peterson posted a time of 1:01.58 for top honors in the 100-meter butterfly.

Both Patriot teams will return to action on Nov. 8 when they host the University of Delaware at 1 p.m. at the Aquatic and Fitness Center.
