HUNT VALLEY, MD ... The George Mason men's and women's cross country teams each placed seventh Saturday at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships at Oregon Ridge Park. The meets were hosted by Towson University.
William & Mary won both team titles, with the women scoring 18 points and the men scoring 20 points. The Patriot men scored 182 points to place seventh, while the women scored 186 points as they finished seventh.
Junior Sara Hines was the top finisher for the George Mason women as she placed 25th with a time of 23 minutes, 10 seconds over the 6,000-meter course. She was followed on the Patriots by senior Dana Early, who was 34th in 23:54; junior Nicole Holifield, 36th in 24:04; junior Ryann Holmes, 62nd in 25:13; and senior Rose Moeser, 66th in 25:22. For scoring purposes (the top seven finishers for each team score points, but only the top five count in the team score), Hines was 20th, Early 29th, Holifield 31st, Holmes 52nd and Moeser 54th.
Senior Ricardo Cunningham paced the Patriot men as he placed 29th with a time of 27 minutes, 52 seconds over the 8,000-meter course. He was followed by teammates sophomore Andy Tramel, who was 43rd in 28:52; sophomore Dennis Moriarty, 44th in 28:54; senior Ben Sommers, 59th in 30:46; and freshman Bryan MacWilliams, 63rd in 31:26. For scoring purposes, Cunningham was 24th, Tramel 32nd, Moriarty 33rd, Sommers 45th and MacWilliams 48th.
