WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - George Mason University's men's swimming and diving team defeated William & Mary by a score of 137-100, while the women came up short and fell by a score of 134-109 earlier this evening in Williamsburg, VA.

On the men's side, sophomore Tim Norton (Virginia Beach, VA) placed first in two events, including the 200-yard IM (1:57.55), and was able to squeak by his teammate, freshman Joe Houchin (Raleigh, NC), in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:56.21, while Houchin finished in 1:56.46. The 400-yard medley relay of senior Nathan Kellogg (Sandston, VA), David Cooper (Jr.; Centreville, VA), Houchin and junior Eric Wellington (Alexandria, VA) earned 11 points for the Patriots with a first place finish in 3:33.28. Another first place finisher for the Patriots was junior Mike Peterson (Springfield, VA) in the 100-yard free with a time of 48.79.

"Tim (Norton) swam very well against TCU last night and was able to come back tonight and record a few wins for us," said head coach Peter Ward. "He gets better and faster as the season progresses."

Junior Stefani Lubore (Ashburn, VA) finished first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:10.56 for Mason and freshman Rebecca Jimenez (Fairfax, VA) was right behind for a second place finish with a time of 2:11.93. Ashley Craw (Sr.; Nashville, TN) placed first in the one-meter diving with a score of 177.375, while senior Jamie Downing (Midlothian, VA) garnered a first place finish in the three-meter dive event with a score of 234.825.

"The big swing in the meet point wise was the 400-yard medley for the women, and we were never able to recover," said Ward. "I was very impressed with several performances, including Steph (Lubore) and Rebecca's (Jimenez) time in the 200-yard backstroke."

The Patriots will return to action when they face the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC on Nov. 2 at 11 a.m.
