KITTY HAWK, N.C. - George Mason claimed seventh place out of 16 teams at the 24th annual ODU/Seascape Collegiate, held at the Seascape Golf Course, Oct. 27-28, in Kitty Hawk, NC. The Patriots, who shot scores of 292-296=588 over the par 72, 6,469-yard course, finished behind first-place Virginia Commonwealth (574), which trailed by nine holes after Monday's first round, as well as Wofford (578) and Liberty (578). Mason's 588 team score is the fifth-lowest for a 36-hole event in school history.
For the fifth straight tournament, senior Craig Mason (Lorton, VA/Hayfield) paced the Mason contingent, placing tied for fourth overall out of 83 individuals for his second consecutive top five ranking. Mason carded a season-best 141 (72-69), equaling his school mark for the third-lowest individual score for a 36-hole tournament. Also in the top 10 for the first time in his career was freshman Nick DeSimone (Sykesville, MD/Liberty), who tied for 10th with a score of 144 (68-76). Senior Ben Hogan (Centreville, VA/Centreville) shot 77 in the first round and a career-best 71 in round two to place in a tie for 26th overall with a career-low 148. Sophomore Mike Cavanagh (Perham, MN/Hibbing) carded 155 (75-80) to tie for 56th, while freshman Trey Bressler (Fairfax, VA/Robinson) fired 89-81=170.
George Mason concludes the fall portion of its season and returns to action in the spring at the Big Red Classic in Ocala, FL, Mar. 13-14.
