FAIRFAX, VA--George Mason University will see action at home this week in several sports, starting on Oct. 30 in women's soccer and the swimming and diving teams at 7 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.
The Patriot women's soccer team (7-6-4, 2-3-2 CAA) will face-off against Colonial Athletic Association leader Hofstra (13-1-2, 6-0-1) on Friday. A victory over the Pride (ranked third in the NSCAA and Soccer Buzz Northeast Region polls) or Drexel (3-13, 0-7) Saturday at 1 p.m. keeps Mason, currently tied for seventh in the conference, in the hunt for one of the six CAA Tournament berths.
Mason's swimming and diving teams will host Texas Christian University for their second home meet of the season on Thursday at the Aquatic and Fitness Center. The women's team is 2-0 overall in dual meets which includes a win at Navy (Oct. 24), along with a victory over Old Dominion the following day at home. The men's team have competed in one dual meet thus far this season where the Patriots defeated the Monarchs, 196-102.
The George Mason men's soccer team (9-4-4 overall, 3-1-2 CAA) can take a large step toward clinching a CAA Tournament berth and a possible first-round home game as the Patriots host William & Mary (9-4-2, 4-2) Friday at 7 p.m. and nationally ranked Old Dominion (14-0, 6-0) Sunday at 1 p.m.
Women's volleyball (10-11, 6-3 CAA) will play host to James Madison (10-10, 5-3) on Halloween at 7 p.m. and will take on Virginia Commonwealth (9-16, 2-6) the following day at 5 p.m. The Patriots were swept by the Dukes earlier in the season in Harrisonburg, while Mason defeated the Rams in four games in Richmond, VA, on Oct. 3. The Patriots are currently second in the conference, while JMU is third and VCU is seventh.
Mason's women's rowing team will close out its fall season when the Patriots host the Head of the Occoquan in Fairfax, VA, (Nov. 1). This is the second race the Patriots will host this fall season with the first on Oct. 12 where Mason's First Varsity Eight boat highlighted the Patriots performance with a fifth place finish, out of 16 boats, in the Open Eight category.
