Mason Finishes Seventh at Maryland Invitational

COLLEGE PARK, MD ... The George Mason women placed seventh of nine teams competing with 173 points at the Maryland Invitational in College Park, MD, on Oct. 11. American was the team champion for the event.

Junior Sara Hines led the Patriot women over the 5,000-meter course for the fifth week in a row by placing 23rd in 19 minutes, 46.69 seconds. Hines was followed to the finish line by teammates junior Nicole Holifield, who was 30th in 20:10.54; junior Ryann Holmes, 33rd in 20:17.35; senior Dana Early, 50th in 20:48.17; and sophomore Jessica Young, 53rd in 20:58.85. For scoring purposes (the top seven finishers for each team score points, but the top five determine the team score), Hines, Holifield and Holmes each scored in the same place, while Early was 43rd and Young 44th.

The George Mason men and women return to action as they compete at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships, which will be held on Saturday, Nov. 1, at Towson University. The men's race begins at 10 a.m., with the women to take to the course at 11 a.m.
