George Mason Claims 10th at Pirate Fall Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, N.C. - George Mason fired 296 in the third and final round of the Pirate Fall Intercollegiate men's golf tournament Tuesday afternoon, giving the Patriots (889) a 10th-place showing overall out of 19 teams. Mason concluded the tournament at 25-over par. Eastern Kentucky won the event held at the par-72, 7,034 yard Bradford Creek GC with an 11-under par score of 853.

George Mason was in ninth place (+11) after the first round, and was tied for ninth at 17-over par following the conclusion of two rounds on day one. Colonial Athletic Association foe Towson made the biggest leap on the first day, shooting 281 in round two to claim fourth after landing in a 10th-place tie (301) following round one. The Tigers finished the competition third overall with an 866 score. Eastern Kentucky and East Carolina remained 1-2, respectively, atop the leaderboard throughout the event.

Junior Craig Mason (Lorton, VA/Hayfield), who placed fifth out of 95 individuals, set two personal bests in the tournament, carding a career-low 66 in round two, and finishing the tournament with a career-best 208 (72-66-70) total after three rounds. Mason's fifth-place showing was his best performance so far this season.

Senior Chris Barr (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) also shot a career-low 72 in the third round and finished tied for 49th (76-78-72). Sophomore Ryan Jeun (Laurel, MD/DeMatha), appearing in his first tournament of the season, carded a 75-78-77=230.

George Mason concludes its fall season, having placed in the top 10 in all five tournaments it has entered. The Patriots, whose best showing was a sixth-place tie at The McLaughlin, Sept. 27-28 in Farmingdale, NY, return to action Mar. 9-11 at the Winthrop Invitational to open its Spring campaign.
