FAIRFAX, VA ... A total of 12 nationally ranked wrestlers, including three each at 157 and 197 pounds, highlights the first annual CAA Duals to be held at George Mason University this weekend. Each of the 11 Colonial Athletic Association wresting teams will compete in the two-day event, with competition beginning at 6 p.m. Friday and continuing at 11 a.m. Saturday at the George Mason Fieldhouse on the West Campus.
A total of 23 dual meets will be contested in the two days (please see attached schedule). Four dual meets will be held in Session 1 (Friday at 6 p.m.), five in each of Sessions 2-4 (Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.) and four more in Session 5 (Saturday at 3 p.m.). Admission is $8 per day or $15 for a two-day pass.
Hofstra, the defending CAA team champion, enters the competition ranked 19th by InterMat and 22nd by Amateur Wrestling News in the latest polls. Six Pride wrestlers are individually ranked, while Rider and Sacred Heart each have two ranked wrestlers and Drexel and George Mason each have one.
Hofstra sophomore Chris Skretkowicz is the highest-ranked wrestler in the CAA as he is rated third at 197 pounds by both InterMat and AWN. Joining him in the rankings at 197 are Sacred Heart senior Anthony Reynolds (fifth by AWN, 10th by InterMat) and Drexel junior Chris Jones (10th by AWN, 12th by InterMat).
Three wrestlers are also ranked at 157, although each poll recognizes only two. Rider senior Derek Jenkins is ranked in both polls (eighth by AWN, 10th by InterMat), while Hofstra freshman Mike Patrovich is rated 11th by AWN and Sacred Heart junior Robert Belville is ranked 20th by InterMat.
Hofstra junior Noel Thompson and Rider senior Nick Harrington are ranked in both polls at 165. Thompson is rated sixth by InterMat and seventh by AWN, while Harrington is ranked 19th by AWN and 20th by InterMat.
The other nationally ranked CAA wrestlers are Hofstra sophomore Ricky LaForge (12th by AWN, 14th by InterMat) at 133, Hofstra sophomore Jon Masa (10th in both polls) and George Mason junior Rob Becker (19th by InterMat) at 149, and Hofstra junior Ralph Everett (14th by AWN, 15th by InterMat) at 174.
