Wallace, N.C. - The George Mason men's golf team carded a 298-295-305=898 score to finish in a tie for seventh place overall at the River Landing Intercollegiate Tuesday at the par 72, 6,975-yard River Landing Country Club course.
The Patriots tied Colonial Athletic Association foe William & Mary, while host and CAA opponent UNC Wilmington (855) outpaced the competition in the 14-team event, winning by 22 strokes over second-place Wofford (877).
Intermittent rain affected play throughout the tournament as Mason had one player shoot par or better over the two-day event. For the second consecutive week, freshman Mike Cavanagh led the charge for the Patriots. The Perham, MN (Hibbing HS) native fired a 224 (76-73-75) to tie for 21st overall with senior teammate Brian Marfori (74-72-78) of Fairfax Station, VA (Bishop O'Connell HS).
Junior Craig Mason (Lorton, VA/Hayfield) tied for 36th with a 75-75-77=227 showing. Senior Chris Barr of Springfield, VA (West Springfield HS) shot 230, including a season-low 73 in round one. Senior Ben Adlard (Cape Town, South Africa) carded 238.
George Mason concludes its fall season at the Pirate Fall Intercollegiate, Oct. 20-22, at the Bradford Creek Golf Course in Greenville, NC.
